PIXX IT'S DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS

Gothic pop has been something of a recent revelation in the music world, with shadowy figures like So Below and Nilüfer Yanya capturing many a blogger’s attention. Another name to add to the must-watch list is Pixx, aka Hannah Rodgers. With striking comparisons to Morrissey in woozy ballad ‘Fall In’ and Grimes through the Eastern-tinged ‘Grip’, Pixx takes the creative connection into her own hands with a live cover of Joe Jackson’s ‘It’s Different For Girls’. The 1979 hit single deals with the confusing world of sex and love in which gender stereotypes are upturned. Pixx truly puts her stamp on this live rendition of a classic, as those familiar elastic guitars and Rodgers' brooding voice present a charismatic performance. - HT
