DEADLETTER MERE MORTAL

On ‘Mere Mortal’ DEADLETTER are vital, verbose and vigorous. Punctuated with guitars and saxophones, backed up by a motley chorus of voices, singer Zac Lawrence’s lyrics and delivery are once again unrivalled and undeniable. He barrels through verse, chorus and refrain, only gaining momentum as he vastly exceeds the post-punk word count. He unpicks and uncovers, frantically searching every corner and crevice for answers before ultimately succumbing to the unknowable and asking the listener 'What's a mere mortal to do?' Lawrence’s endeavour for answers comes in the wake of a personal tragedy, "its intention is not to convey the sentiment of subjective grief” explains Lawrence, “but to act as an undoubtedly relatable tale of loss and longing for all those who themselves have been faced with and have had to navigate the confusing, painful landscape that bereavement leaves one confronted by." Alongside ‘Mere Mortal’, DEADLETTER announce their debut album Hysterical Strength releasing via SO Recordings along with a string of headline live dates across the EU & UK. -Adam Brown
