SHOUT OUT

IYES

In this new feature, we ask a darling of the indie establishment who they think will be the next big act to break.

Brighton duo Josh Christopher & Melis Soyaslanová crafted some of our favourite, playful pop paeans of the past twelve months under the IYES moniker. After releasing a slew of singles on Duly Noted, including the rousing ''Til Infinity' and dewy-eyed banger 'Breathe', Josh and Melis have struck out with a singles label of their own in Love by Mistake. Huge new music buffs themselves, we're tipping Josh and Melis growing roster to be the next hot boutique in the UK.

Josh: I think the act that deserves to break next is talented DEATHS. I've always been a "guitar'n'b fan"; I was there at the start of it, a few years back, listening to it and hearing it evolve, and it got slightly tiresome. Some productions too thin, some sounding too raw, some sounding too "808-massacre", and so on. When hearing DEATHS, through Melis' suggestion, the Berlin-based band seemed like they got the recipe just right. I even asked them to work with our newly established label, Love by Mistake, and become part of our family alongside IYES and Rude. Not too skinny, not over-produced, not too copycat, not too brash - they're just right in my opinion. If the world of baking was to be used as a comparison, to me, DEATHS are well risen Double Chocolate Cake with all the trimmings. Not an Egg Custard.

Melis: I think the next artist to break properly should be, and is gonna be, Years & Years. I love his vocal over the aged-polyrhythms, the Caribbean-style production of the band. I can't wait to see them live and I'm a huge fan of the past singles so far.
