THE GREAT ESCAPE 2017: LISTED

SWEAT

In this ‘Listed’ feature, we get to know the most radicalist up-and-coming stars through a themed list of their top musical picks.

Sharing their wares this time - it’s Sweat.

This London bunch arrived at the beginning of last year in a cloud of neon-hued smoke. Inseparable from the dingy night-time dives of their home city, Sweat’s sound lives down the back-alleys and in the shadows of a not-too-distant future.

Drawing on everything from acid house to propulsive indie-rock, their mind-warping take on escapism is best viewed through their ‘Acid Rainbow’ – a technicolour dream-ride that feels lifted from another dimension.

Smoky, steamy, and – yes – sweaty, theirs is a pleather-on-skin type of seduction – one which only realises its full potential up-close-and-personal. Fittingly, Sweat have shared their go-to methods of musical seduction below, with their playlist of “Songs To Make Love To”, as chosen by singer Dante Traynor. Get heated below, and keep the party going with Sweat’s Alt. Escape performance this Friday at Hand In Hive x TMR’s showcase at The Mucky Duck, as part of The Great Escape festival.

***

1. Doja Cat – So High

Seductive and lucid, alerts the senses in an easy playful way.

2. The Internet – Girl

Tender.

3. D’Angelo and The Vanguard – Prayer

A little bit heavy, so awkwardly groovy in a rough way.

4. Gorillaz - DARE (DFA Remix)

Impossibly insistent and climactic!

5. Billy Idol – Adam In Chains

Hypnotic.

6. Bill Doggett - Cherry

Bill Doggett brings the soulful mood.

7. Midori Takada – Mr Henri Rouseau’s Dream

Safety. Beings interacting.

8. David Bowie – Moss Garden

Deep and otherworldly - one of Bowie’s most beautiful moments and an absolute all-time favourite of mine.

9. Brian Eno – The Plateaux Of Mirror

Totally blissed out, ultimate space and calm.

Catch Sweat at the free Hand In Hive x TMR Showcase on Friday 19th May at Brighton’s The Mucky Duck.
