If there was ever a need to remind ourselves that some of the best music is born from no more than guitars, drums and vocals, look no further than Now, Now’s new single ‘SGL’. Having pursued other projects independently, band members KC Dalager and Brad Hale have reformed for their first release since 2012’s Threads. As if addressing this hiatus head on, ‘SGL’ feels gloriously nostalgic, with simple production complementing Dalager’s wistful words: “Starry eyed, I was young and undone / But I could’ve died with you there in the sun”. Despite this, ‘SGL’ still feels incredibly fresh, and proves that sometimes the most evocative tracks have the most humble origins. -HM
