MARINA BARANOVA THE SNOW IS DANCING

It’s not often we end up reviewing classical pieces, but when they’re as spellbinding as Marina Baranova’s ‘The Snow Is Dancing’ we just can’t help ourselves. The track is out now via Berlin-based Neue Meister and sees Baranova reinterpret Debussy in an entirely modern way, adding vocals and lyrics to create a gorgeous soundscape. Speaking about playing Debussy the traditional, classical way, Baranova says: “It didn’t feel good, and I didn’t want to play them in grand, romantic ways.” We hope that this is just the first of a series of tracks which breathe new life into these iconic works. Baranova plays alongside Poppy Ackroyd and Florian Christl at the Barbican on 29th March as part of their piano day celebrations – grab a ticket here for this really special event.  -HM
