Following the announcement of their new album Sugar At The Gate (out June 2nd on Arbutus Records), Canadian dream-pop favourites TOPS have unveiled the second single taken from it, in the shape of short and sweet shoegazey affair 'Dayglow Bimbo'. The track is noticeably grittier and more lo-fi than the crystalline dream pop we've come to expect from the trio, which comes as a welcome change. The content too is a little darker, as singer Jane Penny divulges, “When David came up with the guitar part for ‘Dayglow Bimbo’ the song came together almost immediately. It brought me back to being a young girl in Edmonton, how independent I felt at that time but also the struggle that I went through when I was confronted by my own sexuality and myself as a sexual object. There are some dark aspects to the song but I hope that it’s ultimately liberating.” TOPS kick off their UK and European tour in Bristol on June 2nd. - HLMX
