THE STROPPIES NOTHING AT ALL

It's been a while since we covered The Stroppies apathetic yet weirdly addictive single 'Maddest Moments' in May of last year. New offering 'Nothing At All' is a more carefree cut, taken from their new album Whoosh due out on London taste-maker label Tough Love (home to Toy, Ulrika Spacek, Autobahn and more) on the 1st of March. Not quite living up to their name, 'Nothing At All' pairs enthusiastic drumming with relentless tumbling guitar riffs, which echo the off-kilter indie rock of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or 2008-era Los Campesinos! However, that's where the similarities stop, as co-vocalist Claudia Serfaty's casually delivered vocals down-play a variety of everyday situations. The accompanying video mirrors the song's sentiments as the band explain: “It plays with themes of progress, failure and futility presented through the lens of kitsch sci fi and dated technology. Thematically the song itself draws upon the same ideas, but deals with them from a personal perspective. We wanted the song to feel like a tessellating little adrenaline hit - focussing more on tone and texture than melodic composition". -Holly Mullineaux
