Starling began as a covers project, with a hat tipped to Joni Mitchell and Bill Withers among others, but has now grown into a fully-fledged singer-songwriter conception. The first of many original works, 'Take It Down', begins in stark pianos before unfurling with a wash of Starling's otherworldly vocals - although that's about as much as the mix offers. It's no bad thing, as voice alone is enough to pique our interest, but imagine the heights some fuller production would see her soar to. We can totally imagine Starling spreading her wings and following a similar path to Ellie Rowsell, blossoming from a sweet dovelike soloist into a howling rock band like Wolf Alice.
