GRIP OPEN ARMS (FEAT. GRANDMASTER VIC)

Atlanta's underground hip-hopper GRIP freshest album Subnose explores disparate styles in the hip-hop world - with exploration of harsh trap beats against assertive vocals, as well as tracks which utilise soft, jazzy, and even ghostly production. Nonetheless, the album maintains a seamless and interesting flow. 'Open Arms' is the final track on the album. To open, it uses childish piano samples, followed by a sturdy beat and a sleek bass line. Grandmaster Vic features on the track, with relaxed rhymes that use a conversational tone, as he explains: "we walk the slow pace but time skates on rollerblades, these are the thoughts that travel through my mind on my lowest days...I probably would have been better off if I got a college degree, wish this knowledge was free". The chorus hook is soulfully catchy, featuring a female vocalist and violin, making 'Open Arms' is the cherry on top of a fantastic new album. - Ellie Rose-Davies
