GOSS IJOTWIYDA

To complete his first EP, titled Healthcare, Denmark’s fascinating electronic artist Goss has reached new heights of sonic perfection with ‘Ijotwiyda’. Lyrically, it provokes indirect images of depression, heartbreak and all-out desperation to make things better. The opening line, “I keep a soda bottle underneath my bed, to capture tears you’re crying in your sleep,” portrays Goss as a caring friend or lover, one who improvises with what’s to hand. In terms of production and instrumentation, it’s pop-leaning - part soulful ballad with the spacious piano chords and steamy guitar notes, part Jai Paul reflection with those dropping synths and sudden electronic swells that seemingly lead nowhere. Despite the unusual song name, ‘Ijotwiyda’ could be the point where widespread listeners wake up to the pure talent that is Goss - about time, too. - HT
