GABRIEL BLACK JUMP (FEAT. SOFI DE LA TORRE)

Eight months ago, bedroom-based songwriter Gabriel Black released his debut ‘Sad Boy’, an honest narrative of his own struggles with depression that sparked an outpouring from fans with their appreciation, support and own tales of mental health issues. Since then, Black has released several more tracks that span his love of ‘90s emo, hip-hop, rock and meaningful songwriting. Newest single ‘Jump’ is really quite different from what we’ve heard before. It seems more sophisticated, a result of this young artist’s developing skills. Built around a rubbed, acoustic guitar, Black’s vocal is layered up on itself for the resplendent chorus, “if you jump them I jump too, so high what a dope view, don’t cry cuz I’m going where ya going, no byes yeah I’m going where ya going.” It’s a dark twisted love story with a dramatic production and the glassy guest vocals of Sofi de la Torre. Both Gabriel Black and Sofi de la Torre have been rendered as an animation in a lyric video by the songwriter, showing a further extension of his DIY creativity. - HT
