LA-based FINLAY has kicked her 2020 off with the luscious, cool breakup banger, ‘Bones’. The track combines a unique vocal performance that drives forward short, stabbing melody lines with support from syncopated synths. The drop that follows the chorus unleashes even more twisting electronic sounds, with the highlight of the track coming in the form of the triplet rhythm that pulsates beneath trap drums and dreamy vocal samples. On writing the track, FINLAY explains that it is “a deeply cathartic record that serves to tell the story of my very biggest heartbreak in my teens. It's anthemic and chilling, written with a heart to empower and encourage others in their own personal confidence and self-love, especially when an S.O. might shrink back and leave you high-and-dry in the face of relational conflict”.
