A London band that have continually set themselves apart from their peers with a palpable penchant for darkness, Black Bordello reveal the brutally titled 'Love Is A Joke'. The first single from their forthcoming album White Bardo opens to restrained guitar strums as songwriter and vocalist Sienna's eerie melodies echo the theatrics of Danny Elfman's work on The Nightmare Before Christmas. Delivered with delicacy and good taste, layers of dizzying backing vocals contribute to the rich and complex offering, which seesaws between intimate moments and heavy grooves that culminate in a chaotic and albeit slightly unhinged climax. In the band's own words, "The video takes place somewhere between a beach at night and the surface of the moon. Two characters embody the oscillations of love through movement, which cascades into convulsions of chaos." Sienna continues (rather graphically) via Instagram, "Should you wish to listen to the process of me turning my heart inside out and exhibiting it, deflated, stinking like carrion, in the window of a butcher’s , go no further than your nearest streaming platform."
