It’s almost impossible to consign Ethan Breakaway’s debut single ‘Better’ to a single genre. Pulling together elements of 80s synth pop, 90s R&B and modern production, the track is a slice of sun-soaked pop heaven – and features an incredibly strong vocal debut from the Londoner. Perhaps the most interesting moment of ‘Better’ is the unexpected, R&B tinged breakdown which features jazzy piano chords, halftime drums and the softly-spoken words: ‘flash of your smile makes my heart skip’. Speaking about the track, Ethan says: “The song represents the simply emotional state of knowing whatever shit happens, your partner should always know that no one does it better than them.” -HM
