BRANDYN BURNETTE ESCAPE

Not surprisingly, there has been recurrent theme throughout the music we’ve covered this week, very much inspired by a tumultuous past year and uncertain future. Concerns have been particularly voiced by American creatives like California’s Bad Wave, New York’s Glassio, and now Missouri’s Brandyn Burnette with new single ‘Escape’. The St. Louis originator explained that he wanted to “to create a track that expressed the turmoil, redemption, and passion that most of us felt building throughout 2016.” A feeling that has almost certainly come to a head today and so-inclined listeners can outlet through Burnette’s dynamic new release. The melancholic, desperate, mournful opening phrases and funeral march tempo draws you into a song which instantly promises to portray this singer’s trademark soul. However, he goes much further than the sound of his State I’m In EP, thanks to the truly magnificent progression throughout ‘Escape’. From balladry soul to electronic-pop to garage to sultry guitar licks; this is a composition of layers and contrasts which creates a wholly textural sound. With many more tracks from his forthcoming Feature Films EP, we’re holding out for more of Brandyn Burnette’s always emotive, ever evolving and evidently maturing style. - HT
