TWO LEGS GRIN

London is brimming with electronic producers so you know that if we’re writing about one of them, they must be pretty special, and indeed Two Legs is just that. ‘Grin’ has been in the works for a couple of years and that intense attention to detail shows itself in this immersive, melancholic dance track. Spanning four minutes and thirty seconds, ‘Grin’ begins as a rather minimal production, with a few shimmering layers of floaty synths in the background, astral vocal samples, and an echoed drum pad over which Two Legs tracks his thoughts, “it’s harder than it looks [...] to sculpt a lying grin that masks your shame.” A shift in the tension begins to transform as the electronica swells into a mighty chorus, reflecting Two Legs’ inner, unbridled emotions or as he explains “The anxiety bred by inner angst and an outward silence.” Throughout the track, we switch between the outward appearance of false serenity backed by The XX-style guitars and Two Leg’s genteel voice and the high-pressure anxiety with a surging, almost overwhelming explosion of sound. Still, despite the whirlwind of emotion, ‘Grin’ still makes you want to dance, to wash your own anxiety away in the movement and the music. - Hannah Thacker   Photo credit: Gan Lockhart
