‘High Horse’ is the latest in a string of agile electronic compositions from Stockholm artist VILDE, who describes his sound as “study dance.” Whether it’s the indie-rock annotations of ‘Life Sized’ or the Anil Sebastian-esque drama of ‘Strictly Speaking’ or the jazzy improv heard in ‘High Horse’, Thomas Vilde demonstrates an ability to draw out tangible movement in his chosen instruments. On his latest production, the synths practically jump around the sonic space, the abrupt drum beat stomps the ground, later joined by a reverberating bass, and then VILDE’s textured tone runs a consistent stream through this alternative-dance track. VILDE is another one of those much-needed reminders that Sweden is so much more than pop music, and what lies on the fringes is really, very good. - HT
