MYSIE SWEET RELIEF

Mysie, the 23 year old from Streatham, South London has just dropped the first song 'Sweet Relief' from her second EP, along with a splendid video. Moved by the experimental nature of ‘On the Level’ by Mac Demarco, and influenced by N.E.R.D, she creates a innovative fusion of pop music. In ‘Sweet Relief’, two notes on electric guitar atmospherically slide up the fretboard as piano chords hover around the bass drum, along with some ambient hiss that’s used as a percussive tool. Mysie’s vocals have an impressive depth and a profound tone and the melody is satisfyingly repetitive as she sings "You never know what you do to me, if life’s so free, you’ll awaken me...you’ll come back to me". The song feels as if it’s escalating to the epic chorus, which is paved with string arrangements and high, dreamy reverb-drenched vocals. Meanwhile, the video follows Mysie, whilst she intensely sings into the camera, with a haunting gaze, moving her body with graceful fluidity. The shots of her in the hallway are beautifully lit - she is illuminated red like a devilish goddess against the blue walls, as if ready to cast a spell. -Ellie Rose-Davies
