SPRITZER GET ME OUT

The story behind a bands formation is always fascinating, whether it’s a serendipitous meeting backstage, long time friends from school, an introduction via mutual connections, and so on. As is the case with Brooklyn project Spritzer, it’s not always instantly apparent. Back in 2015, musician Matt Meade side-stepped from the band Friend Roulette to experiment with a live band project. With the offer of free recording time at his friend’s new studio, Meade found two songs quickly at his fingertips and finding the inspiration to pursue Spritzer further. Ahead of the upcoming debut EP, Not Allowed, the outfit reveal new single ‘Get Me Out’, which “is a song about the heat in August making everyone a little Hellish. I was thinking a lot about this Satre idea that 'Hell is other people.'" This hellish mindset is set against a backdrop of Americana spangled strings and bluesey bass, all made resonant through the spacious lo-fi recording. Meade’s husky voice presides over the jam-style track, singing of the old lie “I’m fine” until the pressure becomes too much and he begs “get me out.” The winding country motifs evoke images of the Californian desert. It’s an intriguing song we could easily play alongside the jazz-influences lofi crooners of the UK, such as Yellow Days, Puma Blue, and Lucy Lu. - Hannah Thacker
