Taken from their forthcoming EP Foiled Again (out June 3rd via Carpark Records), Speedy Ortiz return with ‘Death Note’. Explained in a press release, lead singer Sadie Dupuis confirms that “'Death Note’ is named after the anime which is about an evil supernatural notebook that causes the death of anyone whose name is written inside of it. The song is about writing through your depression as a way to get better, and how in that way a death note can be kind of a love letter to yourself.” An explosive and distinctively exciting start to their new campaign, ‘Death Note’ is an intriguing symbol of what’s to come from Speedy Ortiz. -JE
