ROUSSEAU FAMILIAR

New Zealand dark pop mistress Rousseau isn't scared of revealing the inner workings of her mind if new single 'Familiar' is anything to go by. All about the instant connections forged between strangers and the electricity it sometimes helplessly creates, there is a real sense of emotional danger within her writing. The feeling of getting sucked into something messy but not being able to stop overrides the shimmering tune, as foreboding is built into the cymbal crashes. It's deliciously inviting and confessional in a way that strikes up intimacy with the artist herself like a naughty peek in her diary. We're left wanting to know what happened next. - SJ
