LET'S EAT GRANDMA SINK

Off the back of their astonishing debut single ‘Deep Six Textbook’, the thoroughly alluring Norfolkian duo Let’s Eat Grandma are back with its accompanying B-side, ‘Sink’. Something of a departure from the beauteous solemnity of it’s A-side counterpart, Sink presents itself as a rather different outing, characterized as it is by insidiously catchy hooks and surprisingly grooveable beats. However, even with these veiled nods to the more essential qualities of pop, something eerie undeniably remains at the heart of Let’s Eat Grandma’s beguiling track, most perceptibly exemplified by Rosa and Jenny’s intrinsically peculiar (yet unquestionably enchanting) vocals, and the almost inebriated character of the main synthline. This commingling of pure pop and experimental eccentricity brings to mind the ever-mystifying world of Cocorosie, but make no mistake, Let’s Eat Grandma create a world all their own. For nearly 3 minutes we contentedly ride its wave until we plunge deep beneath the surface, submerged under the rumbling bass weight of this track’s finale. We’re going to keep a keen eye on this remarkable new Transgressive signing. -KJ
