It's no surprise really to discover that Iris Gold spent much of her time developing in the colourful, creative hub of Copenhagen. Squatting between the famous Folkteatret (‘People’s Theatre’) and autonomous fristaden (‘free town’) commune of Christiania, the charismatic youngster drew on experiences with fellow-freethinkers, allowing her to grow into the unique storyteller she is today. With "Steve McQueen" the now London-based artist marries vintage hip-hop influences - see the funk-filled, De La Soul-esque bass line and heart-beating bass - with psychy guitar lines and her effortlessly laid-back flow. Iris Gold is playing it very cool indeed. - G.O'B
