Emmit Fenn and Vic Mensa have come together on new single ‘Pouring Rain’, in which we hear the voice of one lost generation failing to be heard by, or listen to, the next - and so history repeats itself. As Mensa raps: "he never knew his son, how to be a man and teach it to his son, he ain't have a father, that shit come back like karma, he ain't have a job or income tax, he barely knew his mama." His powerful storytelling is backdropped by Fenn’s emotive piano chops and spacious drums beats, which give plenty of room for our own thoughts to merge into this meaningful hip-hop track. Although it isn’t Fenn’s voice we’re hearing here, it’s very much inspired from his experiences, as Mensa retells: "He explained to me stories from Chicago growing up that he witnessed from multiple friends, and he wanted to combine those stories into verses.” This honest testament is easily Emmit Fenn's finest work to date. - Hannah Thacker
