The Melbourne based producer simply known as Connor has been away for a while - three years, in fact - but this week he’s back and proving that his beats are as luscious as ever. Layering delicate high-pitched strings that possess an air of Eastern mystery with a set of awe-inducing, digitally-crafted beats, ‘Around You’ is a seriously dreamy track. Featured vocalist Krue (fka Female) sings with placid smokiness as she lays out the truth - “I wanna be with you / you wanna be me me / talking, laughing, all the time” - but as hinted by the repeated phrase “you spin me round,” it would appear that confusion and drama is a large part of this unsteady relationship. This drama comes to life through Connor’s glitchy re-working of Krue’s vocals and dramatic drum synthesizers. Compared to the Australian beat-maker’s earlier work, ‘Around You’ has a much wider pop appeal, although Connor has maintained, and even polished up, those meditative electronics and finite production that first drew listeners in.
