CARMODY THE LIGHT OF ME

British singer-songwriter Carmody has just released ‘The Light Of Me’, the premiere offering from a five track EP titled 5 Kinds Of Loveless. Having already nabbed a coveted spot on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK, Carmody is wasting no time: she is currently on tour with Tom Misch, with whom she has a joint EP Out At Sea. The two artists also share a musical style grounded in jazz, great melodies and minimal production. Indeed, without The xx-style stuttering guitar and occasional ambient samples, you’d be forgiven for mistaking ‘The Light Of Me’ for a folk record. These touches however, combined with Carmody’s pop-style vocals, bring the track right up to date, with the lyrics candidly pondering the effects of a relationship gone wrong: “I’m so cruel these days, thought I was better raised / I’m so foolish these days, thought I knew all my ways”. ‘The Light Of Me’ is the perfect Sunday morning track – sit back and let its soulful warmth wash over you. - HM
