AFTERBLOOM LITHIC SOUNDS

If Parquet Courts wrote a song with John Dwyer and tried to sing in a British accent, then it'd probably end up sounding a lot like the latest offering from Birmingham-based trio Afterbloom. Having bubbled away under the radar over the last couple of years, the three-piece seem to have moved away from the upbeat indie-psych of their early works in favour of a more jagged, fuzz-laden sound. 'Lithic Sounds' is the first taste of the band's forthcoming EP of the same name and it's without a doubt their most impressive track to date. Spoken-word vocals are delivered coolly over a hypnotic bass line and synths that sound like they've come straight from outer-space. Unruly guitar parts pepper the track, getting increasingly wilder towards the end before cutting off dead. Listen here now. - Holly Mullineaux
