HOLYCHILD HUNDRED THOUSAND HEARTS

A word we often hear associated with love is “bittersweet”, it’s really overused, but within the context of HOLYCHILD’s sugar-coated tale of unmatched emotions, that’s exactly the descriptor that comes to mind for ‘Hundred Thousand Hearts’. HOLYCHILD have painted this track in bold pop brushstrokes. It’s hedonistic and hopeful sounding, like a child’s nursery rhyme or rom-com closing title. It all starts with weird electronic beats and simple synth chords from the mind of multi-instrumentalist Louie Diller. In sync with the joyous melodies are Liz Nistico’s sweet vocals and the most relatable lyrics you’ll have heard in a while. You’re given a couple of verses to settle into HOLYCHILD’s ‘Hundred Thousand Hearts’ before the burst-of-light refrain breaks through the ceiling to a gummy bear and candy cloud wonderland of mid-80s synths, 90s pop and 00s kitsch. As the song intensifies, you begin to wonder whether it’s one of true love found at last or delusion. Whichever happens to be the case, you won’t be able to keep yourself from singing this glorious piece of experimental pop. “Forever yours, / Forever yours!” - Hannah Thacker
