WHITNEY GOLDEN DAYS

Earlier this year and blown over by some kind of beautiful breeze, Whitney sailed smoothly and sat satisfyingly onto the laps of our attention with their dreamy debut, ‘No Woman’. After this, the nonchalant and peaceful love child of Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich (formerly of Smith Westerns) appeared to have accidentally, almost without trying, taken the music industry by storm. With a sound that takes you back to a simpler time comprised of a kind rural, slacker Americana tone, the comforting melodies of Whitney’s second track ‘Golden Days’ is the ideal follow up single. Yet again, the band have been able to create an aura of timelessness via their pleasant, vintage guitars that are cleverly combined with uplifting trumpet sections characterising and setting the band apart from other sounds at the moment. Enthuse all of the above with Ehrlich’s stunning man/child vocals and you can safely say that Whitney have got the ingredients to be a potentially pivotal band in 2016.  -JE
