TARANTINA 1/9

Warped and weary, ‘1/9’ is the third noir electronic-pop creation from mysterious newcomer Tarantina. Throughout the track, the atmosphere hangs heavy with unhurried percussion and creeping electronics that set the intimate scene for Tarantina’s rich, soulful vocal. Her confident voice portrays a rejection of a mistaken romantic interest - “I was wrong to think I loved you, and I’ll leave you howling at the full moon” - before launching into a pop-soul ballad of cinematic proportions. ‘1/9’ is an exploration of the breakdown, or death, of a turbulent relationship “with the idea that this is just the death of one possible route through life,” as Tarantina sagely puts it. If her dark genre-inclusive pop wasn’t impressive enough, it’s also fascinating to learn that she’s is a self-taught singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and videographer working from a home studio. It’s been two years since this avant-garde artist first found praise for single ‘I Am A Loner’, and now ‘1/9’ reignites our interest ahead of Tarantina’s upcoming debut EP, Teething. - HT
