ISAAC GRACIE ALL IN MY MIND

We’ve become well acquainted with Isaac Gracie’s self-penned, bedroom productions over the past year or so. Beginning with that incomparable demo ‘Last Words’, then progressing onto his incredibly tender Songs From My Bedroom EP and even more recently the sleepy, hypnotic ‘Reverie’. Bringing it up to the present day, and it looks and sounds as though Gracie’s music is turning a corner. Of course, his sensitive lyricism, knack of the subtle cinematic and guitar aid have remained a constant, but suddenly the volume, the production and even the performance have been turned up in new single ‘All In My Mind’. Beginning as softly and delicately as so many of his other songs, with swaying hymnal vocals, the track moves into a spacious air of guitar and voice. It’s the signature hallmark of Isaac Gracie, his reflective thoughts that “things have got to change, because they’re not the same” matched in the warbling, introspective vocal. However, then things do change within the space of ‘All In My Mind’, his voice because ever-more passionate and demanding - “why are you acting so cold?” - with bold guitar strums and crossed-brow drums. The latter half, with reverb-soaking strings backed by clips of various past romantic scenarios is a powerful moment in the track and its accompanying video. It’s nostalgia, joy, pain and restlessness all wrapped up into this interlude. We can probably consider ‘All In My Mind’ as the next phase of Isaac Gracie’s creative vision, soon to be followed by more music and more shows. - HT
