GLASSHOUSE RED SPIDER MITE ERSTWHILE

‘Erstwhile’ is the wistful and contemplative debut from Glasshouse Red Spider Mite. 'Erstwhile' is a beautiful word, albeit a word you don't hear much. It means past, or former, which is a peculiar title for a debut. That said, it is very fitting. This is a slow, reflective and thoughtful piece of music. Distant guitars arpeggiate, growling and echoing, while drums splash and ripple like lake water disturbed, illuminated by moonlight. Quiet and low vocals find their place amid this moody scene, this is sincere and affecting music. Speaking of ‘Erstwhile’ the band explain that the track “wades through a journey of sonic ups and downs, in a post-rock slowcore guise, imitating the emotional complexities that comes with the inner turbulence of dark escapism and buried thoughts.” ‘Erstwhile’ was recorded in a single day with Folly Group guitarist Louis Milburn, (no small feat, trust us) and has an accompanying music video courtesy of Flasha.prod. Glasshouse Red Spider Mite will play London's Sebright Arms on April 30th. -Adam Brown
