JIM CAESAR 1205

UK native Jim Caesar’s soul searching R&B numbers have already earned him accolades from the blogosphere and top tastemakers including Zane Lowe and Fader. Yet now the young singer is back with ‘1205’ – a sultry orchestral ballad that feels like the perfect counterpart to his bouncy ‘5050’, which was released six months ago.  ‘1205’ feels much more whimsical than Caesar’s previous records: the backdrop is mainly orchestral, but is littered with atmospheric and retro touches that give the track a cinematic and almost nostalgic feel. His vocals are earthy, bassy and almost Frank Ocean-esque in his upper ranges. Overall, Caesar is a shining example of the exceptional R&B talent coming out of the U.K. at the moment. Check out the live version here of ‘1205’ performed with strings and gospel choir in St James’ Church. -HM
