BEARCUBS UNDERWATERFALL

If James Blake, Thom Yorke and Jamie xx had a 3-parent child, their music would sound like Bearcubs. The UK producer, real name Jack Ritchie, has had a busy few months, with his latest EP Chroma kicking up accolades from Radio 1, FADER, Magestic Casual to name a few. Now back with a newly announced EP Underwaterfall, Bearcubs’ new track by the same name borrows from Jamie xx’s ‘Obvs’ with its soft steel drums, and also channels James Blake’s spacey, futuristic production. The result is an exquisite wash of sound underpinned by crisp, machine drums and a shuddering bassline. “Thinking back you were the imperfect storm”, Bearcub sings in his remarkably soft falsetto. Keep one eye out for the whole EP, which is due to drop on 10th March via new electronic label All Points, or catch Bearcubs playing at Birthdays in London on 28th March. -HM
