THE MODERN STRANGERS VISIONS

Better late than never, right? That’s currently the ethos we’re soothing ourselves with having never covered Tunbridge Wells finest indie-pop band The Modern Strangers who made their debut three years ago with single ‘Vanilla’. Okay, so we’re kicking ourselves a little bit for missing the initial wave, but it’s all good, because we’re currently surfing high on the chunky and funky vibes of new single ‘Visions’. It’s the title-track of The Modern Strangers’ recently released EP and it comes with an alluring, choreographed visual directed by the brothers and band members Max and Archie Davenport. We’d file this track snugly between the likes of Von Sell and Balthazar; it’s slightly off-kilter but still brimming with charisma and a sensuous flair. The bold rhythms meander through ‘Visions’, although giving enough groove to move to, like some “sort of futuristic, end of the world disco,” as Max succinctly puts it. If you’re feeling this one, you’ll be pleased to know that The Modern Strangers head out on a UK headline tour this October including at date at Oslo, Hackney on October 26th. - Hannah Thacker
