NILUFER YANYA MONSTERS UNDER THE BED

Sometimes it's not about being the first person onto a rising artist, although it is gratifying to know you were one of a handful of bloggers or whatever to have "discovered" a special talent before anyone else. The support we can all offer in the longterm is way more important. London-based singer-songwriter Nilufer Yanya is making all the right noises now without having said a great deal in terms of new music. There are three tracks on her SoundCloud page - the excellent, haunting 'Monsters Under The Bed' (to your right), and the more laidback and melancholic 'Waves' and 'Cheap Flights' (here). On each, Nilufer leaves it to her rich, storied tone to do the hard work, while tangled guitars begin to gently unfurl with an emphasis on simple effectiveness. She's managed by heavy-hitters Red Light, and recently supported a couple of serious buzz acts in hot indie outfit Leif Erikson and Chess Club signee Billie Marten; you can almost bank on her to claim the headline spotlight early in 2016, when the ball really gets rolling. - DC
