Over the past few months, we’ve fixed the spotlight on London-based duo Majik (aka Jamie Mac and Marcus Fowler) and their tracks ‘Real’, ‘Paralysed’ and ‘27’. Now the Majik pair are back with ‘Talk To Me’, an ambient single that skims the edges of indie, R&B and electronic music to translate the introverted emotions that each of their songs so perfectly express. Speaking on their newest creation, the English-Scottish duo explain that, “Talk to Me comes from the undercurrents of a collapsing relationship at the point where you just want to 'live' and be free. It's the 'all or nothing' mindset clashing with it being 'time to let it go' and the journey from one to the other.” Emotional undercurrents are transformed into The xx-worthy guitar lines and momentum-creating digital beats, laced through with Mac’s intricate production. These clashing mindsets can also be found in Fowler’s alternating vocal performances, from smooth croons accepting of the relationship’s fate to a spoken-word interlude that’s tainted with anger and frustration. ‘Talk To Me’ is another brilliant track from Majik, one that will feature on the pair’s upcoming debut EP, Under The Influence. - HT
