MAJIK PARALYSED

Once again Majik, aka Scottish-English duo Jamie Mac and Marcus Fowler, crack open a sphere of emotional introversion, aversion and ultimately confrontation for their latest indie-electronic single ‘Paralysed’. As with previous release ‘Real’, the band’s production and songwriting skills are as pertinent as ever - it’s all about the chemistry between these two different musicians. Fowler’s dusky tone beckons the listener in “over and over again,” while Mac’s Jamie xx-worthy beats and romantic synth blends create a tension within the subdued verses and brighter sounding chorus. It’s this duality where we hear “the artist” and “the scientist” (as they refer to themselves) harmoniously contributing their versions, lyrically and digitally, of how disconnection can feel. As Majik tell us, ‘Paralysed’ is an effort encompassing two hearts seeing entirely different perspectives; whilst one suffocates until a natural realisation occurs - breathing life into the darkness.” When the brooding synths give way to optimistic percussion or when the vocals rise to meet the uptempo - that’s the moment of realisation; the connection found. Each chorus is a musical eureka moment, pinned by the line “you used to have me paralysed, but here I go again,” making their A-side to Paralysed/Friends an addictive listen.
