DANIELA ANDRADE GALLO PINTO

Recently, we introduced you to the noteworthy name Daniela Andrade with dreamy single ‘Ayayai’. Now, the Honduran-Canadian artist is back with ‘Gallo Pinto’, another gem from her forthcoming Tamale EP. The accompanying video is a touching vector for the song’s context, that of Andrade’s parents immigration to Montreal, Canada from the Central American country of Honduras in 1987. It’s hard to draw your attention away from the brief and highly emotional scene in which two parents pine for their children who are thousands of miles away. It’s no doubt a familiar story to first and second generation immigrant families, especially in the Americas. Speaking on her own personal experience as the only one of four siblings to be born in Canada, Andrade says, “My view of the world was split between two [Honduras and Canada] from an early age and my family story instilled deep-seated values in me. This song captures some of those emotions for me, as I speak to different versions of myself and open up to my audience about where my family and I come from.” We simply adore the atmosphere created by the lo-fi, reverb-rich strings and smouldering nouveau-RnB electronics here, all topped of with those luscious vocals. 'Gallo Pinto' is a glistening addition to Daniela Andrade’s Tamale EP, set for release on October 25th. - Hannah Thacker
