SHOUT OUT

PALACE

In this feature, we ask darlings of the indie establishment who they think will be the next big act to break.

Palace might have started their musical endeavours in a London squat, but these days they’re far closer to the shining, castle-like abode they share their name with. All sky-scraping melodies and towering pop perfection, they’re perfectly primed for festival main stages and big league venues.

With the group running their own, band-curated ‘Palace Presents’ nights regularly, who better to take the Shout Out hot-seat and give a hat-tip to their favourite up-and-coming artists? Read on below to find out just who this bunch are pinning for super stardom. ***

Yellow Days. I pretty much know every lyric to Yellow Days' music - we've been listening to this kid non-stop. He's 17 years old and ridiculously talented. His voice has incredible soul and the production has a woozy sludgy laid-back feel - 'Your Hand Holding Mine' is a real banger and the lyrics are awesome. I saw him play live with my brother and friend sometime back in a tiny room in Peckham, its raw and smooth at the same time - kinda Paulo Nutini's voice mixed with Mac DeMarco, solid combo.

Dead Pretties. These guys are friends of ours, we shared a studio in Tottenham for some time and used to sneak listens to their rehearsals cause they're that good. Jacob, the singer, is an incredible lyricist, and they combine a very heavy grunge feel with amazing melodies and changes. His words have a real unhinged beauty about them. We had them play our night at The George Tavern called ‘Palace Presents’ - they fucking killed it. Oscar jumped into the crowd and nailed everyone with his bass and then Jacob finished the set by swan diving over a chair off the side of the stage. You won't get a better live show than these guys - best live band around at the moment and they're still in their teens.

Honey Hahs. Again, these girls played our night recently. My friend Oli Pearch showed me them and I had to get them on a 'Palace Presents'. They're a group of three sisters just signed to Rough Trade - they're only seven, nine and 15 years old! It's ridiculous. They have this kind of 60's folky feel and create these mesmerising amazing harmonies. They literally had the crowd totally hypnotised for their set. We plan on taking them on tour at some point, or them coming on stage during one of our shows and doing backing vocals. They must be the most musical family around and I expect huge things from these gals. We're their number one fans.

Catch Palace on tour now.
