Brought to our attention via the ever-reliable PRAH Recordings, Carmel Smickersgill is a Manchester-based musician, composer and producer who's dominated our listening with her highly intelligent debut EP We Get What We Get & We Don't Get Upset. We were blown away by the uniqueness of her aptly-named introductory piece 'Greeting' at the tail end of last year and have been continually delighted and surprised by her eclectic electronic sound since. With connections to another TMR favourite Bunny Hoover and having been mentored by the esteemed experimentalist Anna Meredith, Carmel Smickersgill's ambitious and limitless approach is sure capture the imagination of many more sonic explorers in the future. -Holly Mullineaux
