MAVI PHOENIX LOVE LONGTIME

The thing about living in an increasingly connected world is that the results can often be surprising. To give you an example of what we’re getting at, here’s Mavi Phoenix, the Austrian urban-pop artist with Syrian roots who began her love affair with writing and producing music at eleven-years-old after being gifted an old Macbook. Inspired by English-speaking artists, Mavi Phoenix utilises elements of hip-hop, R&B and electronic-pop, but conveys them in her own effortlessly progressive style. Following the attention grabbing ‘Quiet’, the Austrian artist continues onto her second EP with auto-tune metropolitan ballad ‘Love Longtime’. Backed by over-emphasised keys, Mavi Phoenix sings of young love through robotic vocals, “They don't wanna see my baby holding my hand in the streets, they don't wanna see my baby giving me a kiss on the cheek.” The whole track is full of creative and clever lyrics, especially in the rap verse, which Mavi Phoenix confidently croons in a laidback fashion, aligning with her self-proclaimed couldn’t-care-less attitude. For further evidence, you can watch the low-key visuals and be sure to look out for the four-track Young Prophet EP out March 31st. - HT
