Keyboardist, bassist, guitarist and producer, Lorenzo aka Zo!, blended his love of music with his love of baseball throughout his childhood. After a steady flow of funky, R&B releases since 2010, the Detroit native has delivered his new album FourFront. 'Neither One of Us' is a soulful feel-good tune, despite the somber tone of the lyrics: "without you, it seems the sun don't shine...let's not fight to have someone to blame". The uplifting musicality of the song gives a hopeful context to the lyrics...perhaps the relationship will work out. There is an air of regret and apology in the voice of Madison McFerrin, who features on the track, singing lead vocals in a coy and controlled manner. Her range is diverse, but fluid like a virtuoso jazz pianist. Filtered, open envelope synth parts give you a fuzzy ecstasy feeling, meanwhile thick drums with a delicious snare sound create a rigid cosiness. Rapper and singer Phonte also features on the track, adding a unified element when the two sing the hook in harmony "neither one of us, neither one of us", an open to interpretation phrase that seems free of blame. -Ellie Rose Davies
