YOHUNA DEAD TO ME

From the same sonic circles as Julie Byre and Vagabon comes Brooklynite Yohuna, whose new single ‘Dead To Me’ is an endlessly dreamy fuck-you. This left-of-pop shoegazer sings of the cathartic process of cutting toxic people out of your life. As Johanne Swanson, the musician behind the moniker, shares: “I hope this song is comforting to anyone who has to draw a hard boundary or even cut someone out that they care about. That’s a hard thing to do. When I was younger, I walked into fire because I was curious what it felt like. I knew it was going to burn, but I just had to know. Sometimes people burn you and it’s not fair, but it’s your responsibility to make sure they don’t do that again. That might mean filing them away into the “Dead to Me” catalogue of your life.” Alongside this indie life lesson is a quirky music video directed by Mark Lukenbill, which sees Emily Yacina plot to murder Johanne. ‘Dead To Me’ is set to feature on Yohuna’s album Mirroring which will be out June  via Fear of Missing Out Records (UK) and Orchid Tapes (US). - Hannah Thacker
