WOMBO S.T. TILTED

Wombo share 'S.T. Tilted', the final track from their upcoming album Danger in Fives. The latest offering from the Kentucky trio - consisting of Cameron Lowe on guitar, Joel Taylor on drums, and Sydney Chadwick on vocals and bass - unfolds like a fever dream. Instinctively, something feels off. Jagged, detuned guitar riffs scratch at the edges of that anxious stupor, at moments lifting with what can be interpreted as both curiosity and concern, while the drums and bass remain low and consistent, gripping unstable ground. Chadwick floats somewhere above it all, humming absently between sweet, euphonious repetition of a one-line refrain: 'And with a tilted head, try to regain balance/Turn on it now and then, quietly to open', furthering the tension with a repetitive unease. The music video brings this feeling to life, as it shows Chadwick obliviously carrying a conversation, while Lowe and Taylor are taunted by the movement of inanimate objects as they all sit in a candy-striped waiting room, trying to make sense of reality gradually fraying at the seams. Acknowledging all of the contrasting parts, Lowe has admitted that they weren't sure 'S.T. Tilted' was going to work. While it shouldn't, it does fluidly, with every component of the track contributing to the its disjointed composition with unusual precision. Against all odds, 'S.T. Tilted' holds together to show Wombo at their finest - purposeful and peculiar. -Kayla Sandiford
