Westerman has been a long-lauded tip here at TMR, so we were more than a little pleased to to finally learn details of the songwriter's debut album. Due for release via Play It Again Sam on the 5th of June, 'Your Hero Is Not Dead' is an optimistic first taste. A metallic trudge opens the track as warm keys conjure that feeling when you open your eyes for the first time on the morning of a sunny day. Lethargic and hazy but pleasantly surprised. Doused in a subtle reverb, Westerman's singular vocal is smooth and rounded, echoing nuances of the late, great Arthur Russell. Accented by carefully-placed backing vocals, 'Your Hero Is Not Dead' is dynamic, emotive and utterly timeless. If this title-track is anything to go by, then we're in for a real treat. -Holly Mullineaux
