WATERBABY MEMORY BE A BLADE
On 'Memory Be a Blade', Stockholm-born waterbaby turns reflection into something quietly piercing. The title track from her upcoming EP (out on 6th March) captures the sharp ache of looking back, not just at a person, but at who you were when you were loved a certain way. Set against warped, stunning pop production softened by piano and airy orchestration, the song balances intimacy with restraint. waterbaby’s voice feels almost conversational, as if she’s thinking out loud, letting melodies loop gently while the emotion sinks in. Lines like 'My favourite part is still the one only u could see / My favourite me is still the girl I used to be” cut especially deep, reframing heartbreak as the loss of a former self rather than that of a former lover. There's beauty to the repetition of 'In your eyes', as it circles like a thought you can’t quite shake, but it never dulls the song’s impact. When she finally names the feeling 'memory be the sharpest knife' it lands. With 'Memory Be a Blade', waterbaby really sets the emotional tone for an EP that promises depth and intimacy. -Rachel Fryer
