LIST PICK

VANCOUVER SLEEP CLINIC IN THE END

It’s no secret that there’s something magical and medical about music; it has the cathartic ability to work through stress, anger, depression, can greatly increase concentration, and can even spark the memories of those with neurological damage. One artist who has used this art form to self treat is Vancouver Sleep Clinic (aka Tim Bettinson), who has just released his Therapy Phase 01 EP, which includes previous List Picks ‘Ayahuasca’ and ‘Vixen’. Of the six tracks, we’re drawn to the heartfelt electronica of ‘In The End’, in which Bettinson’s delicate, papery vocals float over intricate beats and guitar notes. These gentle, flowing layers on instrumentation build up to a peak around the two minute mark, the repeated lines ‘I never wanna talk about / I never wanna think again / you’re the only one who made me feel something in the end,’ closing a chapter on the first phase of Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s emotional healing. - Hannah Thacker
