TRAUMA RAY SPECTRE
Texas-based five-piece trauma ray have released their slow, introspective new cut, ‘Spectre’. At a gratingly slow tempo, the band delivers a hauntingly textured performance that bursts from the shackles of its restrained intro, into the distorted barrage of sound that lasts the rest of its three minutes. Above the band’s atmospheric shoegaze accompaniment, vocalist Uri Avila provides a hypnotic topline built on hymnal lyrics. “I think a lot of us have our own ghosts we refuse to part with,” they say. “This song is supposed to haunt you. To help you internalize and break down your own inability to let go of the things or the people that aren’t good for you.” The band are touring the UK in late October and will be releasing their debut album, Chameleon, on October 25th, 2024. -Dan Peeke
